Important!!! Warning, please read

I don't get much time on the computer these days, and especially not for the level of trailer searching I used to do. When I do visit eBay, I have a search saved just for whole trailers, not parts, so what I see on eBay is limited. Well, I happened to notice the following listing as a suggestion tonight:

SUNLINE RV Trailer camper Operation Manuals 430PGS w Frig Stove AC Service | eBay

DO NOT BUY IT!!!!!!!!!! Let me repeat, DO NOT BUY IT!

If you look close, those of you who know your Sunlines will noticed the manual pages are from the generic Sunline manual issued with all Sunlines from the late '80s/early '90s. I mean, if we get technical, the age deterioration in the paper (aka dark spots) match up exactly to the scans I have.

It really pisses me off that this prick would take the files we have here for Sunline owners to access and try to sell them for such a profit. I have HOURS, probably more like WEEKS when all the hours are combined, into scanning and editing many of the files available for all of you in the files section. Not just me- it's all of us. Many of you have been gracious enough to submit many scans of your own. In this case, Opie was especially generous because he mailed me his copy of the manual for my collection. What it contains in 432 pages, I'm not sure. Probably most of the brochures and appliance manuals from here as well.

I already logged in and reported both of the ads, but I'd encourage all of you to do the same. This way maybe eBay will really suspect something. Unfortunately I couldn't give an explanation, so who knows what they will do. While I haven't downloaded it recently (I just looked at the one on my computer), the owners manual should have my name and the date on the front cover, so it clearly explains what I did. I also don't make claim to the content, because it is clearly copyrighted by a publishing company.

Here's the link to the second ad:

SUNLINE RV Trailer camper Operation Manuals 430PGS w Frig Stove AC Service | eBay

Jon..I am really disappointed to see the language you chose to use in a post for our wonderful forum..it certainly is not a good example to set for our newest members! I can understand the point you are making after all your hard and appreciated work and dedication BUT....I think you owe some sort of "apology" for your choice of words! ...JMHO. Janalee

Hey Jon...They are everywhere these days. Seems like no one has any respect for others anymore. Rest assured my friend...they will get theirs in the end.
Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to this forum. You and the information provided have helped me on many occasions and I for one really appreciate it.

Yes Jon you are appreciated greatly.
Keep up the effort, I agree with you about your hard work and effort.
I do not agree that the language is bad compared to what some are thinking about someone of this caliber.

Jon,
You among some others, but esp. you are the major reason I have come to this forum and stayed as well as care. You and others have put you heart and soul as well as plain hard dedicated work into it.
I think there are times that certain words in the right context, be they as they are, indeed are appropriate; this being one of those times.
This isn't something to be "sugar coated"......MHO

Red face

I agree that Jon is exceptionally hardworking and dedicated to this forum and all its members. I simply stated he could have chosen a better "name" to describe this person more in keeping with the high standards he has always shown here. I still have high regard for you Jon..just feel you could have been more careful in your choice-I am sure it was done in the initial heat of your discovery!!. I hope Ebay will consider the possible copyright infringement and pull it from his long list of other such items. And I sure hope my observations have been taken in the right way..Now..if I have hurt anyone's "sensibilities",then it's my turn to apologize. Janalee:

Have you ever been to the "breaking point" and say or type something and then feel bad about it.......I know how many hours Jon has dedicated to this forum and to see someone rip off HIS work and try to sell it - I can understand his frustration....maybe words were written in the" heat of the breaking point".....Jon's choice of words may not be appropriate AFTER THE FACT but during - rightfully so! I may not have been as nice!!!!!

I also reported both items. Seems this guy is trying to make a living off of copying other's work. He has manuals for sale for many other brands also. Maybe E-Bay will see this pattern and ban him. Unfortunately, at least one person has already paid $21.45 for one of these "new" manuals.

IMO, this is most likely someone who is a member of our Group, ships from Granada Hills, Ca.
Just outside and a suburb of an Fransisco.
I likewise have reported these listings.

Good point. One would have had to at least been a member to have download permissions...no? I believe so.

Scroll down the listing and on the right edge there is a link to "report item". You must be logged into ebay.

I also reported it as a copyright infringement.

I wish I had a ebay ID so I could report them. Perhaps a warning about resale of the sites free downloads is in order, if it is possible. Are free downloads being resold really copyright infringement? It is a shame that the seller didn't have the morals to ask before selling the work of others here instead of acting like a thief in the night.

Maybe the best thing to do would be to list the information they are selling..... for free! Giving the download information from this site away to kill the sales would make sense to me. Not sure the listing costs but perhaps the end results would be worth the effort/costs.

I don't know if it is a copyright issue but on the report page you had to choose an item from a dropdown list so that seemed the closest at the moment.

It would be easy to buy one and leave feedback telling how to join and download from here and how the seller abused the free information downloads here. Might make a difference to other potential buyers. If you wanted to really be dirty you can mess with their feedback to ruin the online sales.

Some good suggestions. It would seem that everyday there are more and more people trying to make a buck with some new scam...anything but honest work.

I guess I have got immune from visiting Yellowbullet because I had to go back and re-read the post to find the offensive words. LOL It's a drag racing site and they have an OT section where anything goes. In any case, keep up the good work Jon. I enjoy the site and have learned some valuable info here.

I did get a kick out of the ad stating Sunlines are highly desirable, collectible and increasing in value. Have I unwittingly got a retirement fund sitting here?? LOL

Thanks all. He definitely deserves everything coming to him, and I certainly could (and have) called him much worse, so it was toned down quite a bit for here. Since I spend most of my time on car forums where that type of thing is more the norm, I guess it's a generational thing.

There hasn't been just one sucker so far. In going through his feedback, I found seven, as far back as around February of this year:
- eBay My World - stalisha1069
- eBay My World - scraptek
- eBay My World - pckstppr35
- eBay My World - eggs4sail2012
- eBay My World - engineman318
- eBay My World - ione2retire
- elin2742's profile

So at roughly $20 a pop, this seller has already made some good money.

The thing I was most surprised about, there's a Clark Cortez motorhome manual that he sells. For those of you who have been to the RV/MH Hall of Fame Museum in Elkhart, they have a Clark Cortez in there. They were built right over here in Battle Creek too, back in the '60s and '70s. They only built about 3000 of them, and I doubt that many still remain. Yet I probably saw feedback for at least 30 Cortez manuals, and I finally stopped going since I hadn't seen a Sunline one for a few pages.
