New Trivia Question (Posted 3-29-10)

There's no way to know this or search for it, so just guess.

During my years of searching for Sunline's on the internet, I've come across many mis-advertised coaches. Accuracy isn't too bad for like years 1995 and newer, but beyond that, I've seen a lot of funky stuff. Sometimes model years are mis-communicated, especially in states that don't require titles. Of course model numbers are always botched up, I'd be lucky to see 50% correct out of any given group, but most times I'd see around 25%.

Keep in mind these following answers would include years only prior to 1995 and floorplans only sold before 1995 (though of course some continued on). There is not much of a back end, though I think I'm safe saying 1975 and probably I could even do 1978 or 1980. The <1980 coaches account for such a small portion of the market, especially in the last year or two, that most guess closer or don't guess at all. It is surprising how I used to see quite a few from '76-'85 only a couple years ago, and now there are almost none. I haven't seen a '76-'77 coach for sale probably three months.

Which model year do you think is most commonly used when the seller does not use the correct year?

What are the top three most commonly screwed up Sunline floorplan numbers (in no particular order, because I don't have one)? Feel free to guess at what number or number/letter combo they use.

Before anyone asks, this wasn't calculated statistically, it is just from memory. Not to mention when I save the coaches, I correct the info so it would take a long time to go search through PDF's of the ads to see which ones were incorrect, not to mention I have quite a few with no PDF's that I got a long time ago.

Jon

Okay, here are some really wild guesses.

I don't know why, but I'll say 1985.

I think I saw one listed somewhere as either a 2400 (24 ft.) or 2500 (25 ft).

No, sorry. That is close in length to one of them though.

I'm going to say 1987
Model 2363 and variations thereof (2361, 2362) since they had alot of 23' length models and it was a popular one back in the day.

Again, very close!

You are partially correct about the 2363. They did have a lot with that same basic floorplan around that time, though none were called the 2363. The 2363 name came around in like 1991 (I didn't look it up though, so it could be within a year or two). Prior to that, the basic idea for that layout started in about 1983 as the T-2261 and T-2262, with 1 being the corner bed and 2 being the twins. They later added more variations of this, the 2263 had the rear island bed, the 2264 had quad bunks, the 2265 had like a lounge with two bunks, and then I think the 2266 had two lounges. Then around the time that all those models came into play, they also created the 24' version, which from the best that I can tell, the only difference is the addition of a pantry right inside the door on the side of the refrigerator. I'd love to see two side by side for measurement comparison.

The reason I say you are partially correct is that I have rarely seen a 2261/2/3, etc advertised as a 2363. I think the main reason is because the optional front with the chair only came about later on, so many of the 22's and 24's have the half dinette option. This was the same story for the 2363's early on, but within a couple years, the chair option became more popular (I'd guess as Sunline's started becoming less known as the lightweights and more known for luxury, hence older people went more for them). In fact, the chair option became so popular that by the mid '90's, it became standard and before long the half dinette choice was no where to be found.

Actually, most people just refer to these size/generation coaches as 22's or 24's. This was just before the model plates were introduced, and since the spec decals wore off so easily, many had no clue of the model. I was actually unaware of exactly what a 2261, etc was until this past summer, when I finally sat down and figured them out so that I could organize all of my pictures. I had so many just labeled as 22' or 24', per advertisements, that it took me a while to go through to reclassify all of them.

For the next two, one dates a little before this point and one dates a ways after, and both were relatively popular models in their time.
